World Toilet Day takes place every year on 19th November. It began in 2007, with it being recognised by the United Nations as an official day in 2013. It has, of course, nothing to do with celebrating the chinaware we take for granted in our bathrooms and en-suites. Its motto is “leaving no one behind” and its goal is to provide everyone with access to the most basic of needs – a hygienic and private place to go to the toilet; protecting and maintaining both personal health and dignity.
TWC Facilities Ltd are members of the Independent Washroom Services Association (IWSA), an organisation of like minded washroom service providers from across the UK and Ireland, who work together to deliver high quality servicing nationwide.
Since the beginning of 2018, the IWSA has been supporting the charity Toilet Twinning, whose aim it is to “flush way poverty, one toilet at a time”. The charity has come up with a novel way to raise funds and also highlight its work by encouraging people to twin their loo with one in the communities they work with. Their projects focus on working with poor communities in developing countries, giving families access to clean water and educating them on the importance of good hygiene.
It costs £60 to twin your toilet and to date we are proud to announce that the IWSA have twinned with 27 loos around the globe, with that total increasing each month. Our donations have also helped fund a specific project for a school in India.
Let’s use the 19th November to take a moment and reflect on something we all take for granted and with Christmas just around the corner, maybe you could consider twinning a toilet or two? For more information, visit www.toilettwinning.org
