Kick the Year Off with a Healthy Start - Eliminate Germs and Bugs from the Workplace

Statistically Winter is the worst month for employees to get illnesses, creating a huge burden on businesses from all industries throughout the UK. On 9th January 2020 the most recent Public Health England (PHE) report showed that seasonal flu activity is remaining high.

This January, take the sensible step of preparing a clean workplace by eliminating bugs and germs, and promoting healthy choices, keeping you and your staff well in the new year.

How to prepare your workplace

Airsteril: A hugely popular choice for keeping the environment healthy in workplaces is Airsteril. This is a chemical and filter free way to stop moulds, viruses and infections spreading and contaminating the air. It uses the latest state of the art infection control technology at a low cost to prevent bacteria from growing in the working area, which can cause respiratory problems for employees and visitors. Standard cleaning products and air fresheners do not kill the germs, they simply mask odours. Unlike these, Airsteril kills the germs and recreates mountain fresh air wherever they are in operation.

How to prepare your washrooms

Auto sanitising units: Specifically made for all types of urinals, our auto sanitising units keep urinal cleanliness to the very highest standards. The low maintenance units are an essential product to have in your washroom as they keep odours at bay, prevent the build-up of uric scale and limescale, and keep the overall cost of cleaning to a minimum

Soap dispensers and hand dryers:
Keeping your soap dispensers topped up presents a healthy and professional image to your staff and visitors whilst most importantly facilitating the prevention of infections being spread by encouraging hand washing.

We provide various ranges of soaps to use in our dispensers such as standard soaps through to anti-bacterial, as well as different textures from liquid to foam. Research shows that bugs such as colds, flu and diarrhoea can be reduced by as much as 80% if hands are washed effectively, preventing cross contamination of germs. This makes maintaining soap dispensers a must!

Following on from washing your hands with the soap dispensers, hand drying is the next important step in the washroom. With our modern energy efficient hand dryers, staff and visitors can continue back to their jobs quickly and efficiently whilst keeping hygiene to a high standard. Using touch free technology our GLX hand dryers reduce the chances of bacteria being spread through cross contamination.

Many people are washing their hands incorrectly without even realising, missing a golden opportunity to prevent Winter bugs and germs by doing it properly. Performing this simple task correctly, germs can be washed away and destroyed. It is very easy to pick up bugs in the workplace by touching door handles, light switches and other common surfaces which employees come into contact with on a regular basis, so we can't emphasise how important this is.

Here are 10 simple steps to hand washing…

  • Wet your hands with water
  • Dispense enough soap to cover your hands thoroughly
  • Rub your hands together
  • Clean in between your fingers with one hand and rub the back of your hand with the other, do the same for the other hand
  • Clean thoroughly in-between each finger, rubbing your hands together
  • Rub the back of your fingers against the palms of your hands
  • Rub your thumb with your other hand and vice versa
  • Rub the tips of your fingers on the palm of your other hand, again do the same with the opposite hand
  • Rinse hands with water
  • Turn tap off and use disposable towel or hand dryer

It is very important to wash your hands throughout the day on a regular basis as this removes dirt and bacteria throughout the day. Washing hands after using the toilet or blowing your nose, sneezing or coughing is of great importance and will help prevent cross contamination of germs and bugs to other staff members.
